What to Expect During an EEG administered by your doctor
- Preparation:
- Wash your hair the night before the test and avoid using any hair products
- Continue taking your usual medications unless instructed otherwise
- Avoid caffeine and stimulants on the day of the test
- During the EEG:
- You will be asked to lie down or sit comfortably
- Small electrodes will be attached to your scalp using a special adhesive
- You will be asked to relax and close your eyes while the EEG records brain activity
- The procedure is painless and typically lasts about 30-60 minutes
- After the EEG:
- Once the test is complete, the electrodes will be removed, and you can resume normal activities
- Your specialist will analyse the recordings to identify any irregularities in brain activity
- A detailed report will be provided to your referring doctor, who will discuss the results and any necessary next steps with you
